Voting by proxy

What is a proxy vote?

If you cannot vote in person on polling day, you can ask someone to do it on your behalf. This is called voting by proxy.

Your proxy should be someone you trust, and who knows who you want to vote for.

Your proxy can be anyone as long as they are registered and eligible to vote in the same election. They can go to a polling station to vote, or apply to vote for you by post.

How do I apply for a proxy vote?

If you would like to vote by proxy for a particular poll you can apply online. You can also do this if you are a service voter.

If you would like a proxy vote for the foreseeable future or for a long period of time you need to download, print and complete the form which relates to your reason for needing a proxy vote.

Once you have completed the form and made sure you have signed it, you need to send it to the electoral services team at your borough council.

Find your borough’s Electoral Registration Office.
