Election of Mayor of London and London-wide members of the London Assembly

Date of the poll

1. In the event of a contest, the date of the poll will be Thursday 2 May 2024.

Nomination papers

2. Nomination papers to stand in the elections for the Mayor of London and the 11 London-wide Members (party list and individual) of the London Assembly may be obtained from the office of the Greater London Returning Officer, City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, London E16 1ZE on working days between 9am and 4.30pm. Nomination packs can be downloaded at: www.londonelects.org.uk/im-candidate/nominations

Delivery of nomination papers

3. Completed nomination papers must be delivered in person and hardcopy (not by email) to the Greater London Returning Officer, Committee Room 5, Ground Floor, City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, London E16 1ZE on any weekday from the date of this notice between 9am and 4.30pm, but by no later than 4pm on Wednesday 27 March 2024.

Payment of deposits

4. The deposit for each Mayoral candidate is £10,000. The deposit for each party list or individual candidate in the election of London-wide Members is £5,000. Payment should be made by electronic transfer into the GLA Income Account (Royal Bank of Scotland; sort code 16-00-38; account number 00780445). Payment can also be made by cash or bankers draft (banks operating in the UK only). Cleared funds must be received by 4pm on Wednesday 27 March 2024. Money laundering rules will apply if the deposit is paid by cash, and you will be required to provide proof of the source of the funds at the time the deposit is made.

Registering to vote

5. Applications to register to vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer in the local authority area where the elector is to be registered by Tuesday 16 April 2024. Applications can be made online at: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

Voter Authority Certificate or Anonymous Electors Document

6. Applications for a Voter Authority Certificate or an Anonymous Electors Document valid for the election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer in the local authority area where the elector is registered by 5pm on Wednesday 24 April 2024. Applications can be made online at: www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-to-vote.

Postal and proxy voting

7. Applications to vote by post or to change existing postal or proxy voting arrangements must reach the Electoral Registration Officer in the local authority area where the elector is registered by 5pm on Wednesday 17 April 2024.

8. New applications to vote by proxy must reach the Electoral Registration Officer in the local authority area where the elector is registered by 5pm on Wednesday 24 April 2024.

9. Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election on the grounds of physical incapacity or for work/service reasons must reach the Electoral Registration Officer in the local authority area where the elector is registered by 5pm on Thursday 2 May 2024. The physical incapacity must have occurred after 5pm on Wednesday 24 April 2024. To apply on the grounds of work/service, the person must have become aware that they cannot go to the polling station in person after 5pm on Wednesday 24 April 2024.

Constituency Members of the London Assembly

10. To become nominated as a candidate in the elections for the 14 Constituency Members of the London Assembly the relevant Constituency Returning Officer (CRO) must be contacted for the particular Assembly Constituency concerned. Details of the nomination process will be set out in the official notices of election published by them.
