London Elects launches website

The countdown begins…

A new, clear and creative website is launched this week engaging Londoners in the elections for the Mayor of London and the London Assembly.

The London Elects website is going live to coincide with Local Democracy Week and has everything Londoners need to know about the elections – including registering to vote, how to vote, standing as a candidate, borough contact details, latest news and press releases and much more.

Exciting new features include an elections checklist with short animations showing how to vote and how the results are calculated, a countdown clock, a tool that automatically downloads key election dates – including the date of the election 1 May 2008 - straight into your Outlook or iCal calendar, and borough pages where Londoners can find information on the election in their area and upload their own borough and London photographs.

Matt Bright, Communications Manager at London Elects, said: “As well as creativity, accessibility has been an essential factor in the design of the londonelects.org.uk website. London has the most diverse population in the UK so it is important we provide clear information and connect with people of all ages and backgrounds, in all of London’s boroughs.

“The animations will give Londoners a clear and simple visual explanation of the voting process and the borough pages are designed to engage everyone in London in the elections, from Hackney to Hounslow and Brent to Bexley.”

As we near election day more features will be added including a polling station finder and a full list of all the candidates standing. The full results on 2 May will also be broadcast live on the site.

The website is an integral part of the London Elects’ awareness campaign – and is the only official, politically neutral source of information for the public, political parties, candidates, media and other election stakeholders.
