Vote for your first choice candidate with one mark (X) in column one.

Step 2: How the votes are counted
The ballot papers are sent to an e-counting centre where they are scanned, automatically counted and verified.

Step 3: How the results are decided: Round 1
If one candidate receives over 50% of the first choice votes, he or she is declared the winner.
Step 4: How the results are decided: Round 2
However, if none of the candidates receives over 50% of the first choice votes, there is a second round.

The two candidates with the highest number of votes go through to the next round. All the other candidates are eliminated.

Any second choice votes for the top two candidates are counted and added to their total.
Step 7: How the results are decided: Round 2
When the second choice votes have been added, the candidate with the highest total is declared the winner.
